A green card visa is a United States Permanent Resident Card issued to an immigrant who is authorized to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis. They are informally known as green cards because they were green from 1946 until 1964; recently, they have become green again. These cards allow foreign nationals to become a part of the American dream, and are issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). There are many paths to obtaining a green card.

Ways to Get a Green Card Visa

A person from another country may obtain permanent Unites States resident status through a family member or employment. They may also use the Eb5 Visa Program by investing more than 0,000 in the United States and creating at least ten jobs. With this immigrant Investor Visa, foreign nationals and their significant other, as well as their unmarried children, can attain permanent U.S. residency. Immigrants may also get a green card from the Diversity Lottery, or through refugee or asylum status.

The Application Process

To apply for a Green Card Visa, an immigrant must file a petition through a qualifying relative or employer. There are a limited number of visas available each year, and there are additional limitations placed upon certain countries. Therefore, unless the immigrant has an immediate relative who is a U.S. citizen, there can be a lengthy waiting process that can take up to several years just to receive an immigration visa number. Once a visa number is received, the applicant can adjust their status to permanent resident.

The Green Card Lottery

Every year there are 50,000 immigrant visas available in what is known as the Green Card Lottery. This option is available to people born in countries that have less than 50,000 immigrants into the United States within the last five years. Anyone chosen by the lottery can also file permanent residency for their spouse and any unmarried children under 21. There are more than 10 million applicants a year for the Diversity Immigration Visa Green Card Lottery. Because this lottery is so popular, there are also many scams claiming to increase the chances for winning the lottery.

Conditional Permanent Residence

People who qualify for a green card visa based on investment or recent marriage to a U.S. citizen are granted a conditional permanent residency for two years. When the two-year probation period expires, the applicant must file a form to have the conditions removed. At this point, residency is granted in one-year increments until the application is eventually rejected or approved. For a marriage, proof that the union is not fraudulent is required. Birth certificates, financial records and letters of reference can be used to prove this.

Information on applications and eligibility requirements are available on the USCIS and the Department of State websites. In addition, illegal immigrants who have been in the United States since before January 1, 1972 are eligible for green card visa status. However, they must have no ties to terrorist activities, not be involved in certain criminal activities, and must be of upstanding moral character to qualify.

Living in the USA is a dream for many in this world. But to be able to do that you must have a green card first. Obtaining a green card is the one and only hurdle between you and you living in the US.

What is the green card? It is basically proof stating that you are a citizen of the USA. This is something you will need if you want to reside there permanently. Sometimes applying for a visa is not a fast or a guaranteed process. Many a times you may get rejected and then again you will have to wait another fiscal year to reapply.

There are some basic things required of you to make you eligible to apply for the Green card. For example – you should have at least a high school degree. At the same time, work experience in any field for a minimum of two years in the past five years is also a criterion making you eligible to apply.

The diversity visa lottery USA is a program provided by the state of USA that enables you to obtain the green card by a way of a lottery.

The State of USA annually gives away 55,000 green cards through lotteries to applicants from some selected countries. So it really depends on how lucky you are to be able to win a green card lottery. There are several countries in the world that the government of USA recognizes, and the citizens of which are allowed to apply for a visa. Several European countries like Denmark, England, Ireland; Asian countries like China, India, and also countries like Australia and New Zealand are enlisted in these. Suppose an applicant does not belong to any of these countries, then if his or her spouse is an international of one of these recognized countries, the couple can apply together for a green card.

Usually the first applicant selected for the fifty thousand of these lotteries is from one country, the second is from the next and so on. The chances that one applicant from one country lands this opportunity is the same as someone else from another country landing the card. So there is no biasness regarding the selection procedure.

Usually countries with low immigration rates have the most number of people winning these green cards.

Once you have been selected for a green card, you will be contacted by the USA government on your mail ID which you have provided in your online registration form. Alternatively, with the serial number you obtained after registering, you can keep checking online for your application status.

Generally, a permanent resident card (green card) is valid for ten years. On or before the expiration date, you will be required to renew it by filing Form I-90, application for green card replacement with the USCIS. If your green card has already expired, make sure you renew it at the earliest possible time upon discovering it has expired. Per immigration law you will not lose your permanent resident status, but you must be able to have a valid green card as evidence of your permanent resident status. If you were unable to renew your expired/expiring card, you could experience difficulties in obtaining employment, benefits and on re-entry to the United States from abroad. It is recommended apply for your new green card before you travel and bring with you as evidence on any travels the temporary documentation you have received. After traveling abroad you try to re-enter the U.S. with an expired card, this might present a problem for you during the inspection process at the port of entry.

Process for online green card renewal:

It is recommended before e-Filing your application you check for eligibility information to make sure e-Filing is the right filing option for you. Also check your system requirements. Ensure you have all the proper information on hand before beginning the e-File process. Have available your method of payment to pay the filing fees if necessary.

If you decide to e-File the application you will not need to submit paper photographs and you will not need to self schedule an appointment at an Application Support Center for biometrics. You will receive a notice in the mail from USCIS that will provide you with your USCIS scheduled appointment for biometrics and taking of the photographs at an Application Support Center nearest you.

You should bring your biometrics appointment notice and photo identification to your biometrics appointment. Types of acceptable photo identification which are generally accepted are a passport or national photo identification card issued by your country or drivers license or military photo i.d. or state-issued photo i.d. card. Bring all required initial evidence, including your prior green card or other evidence of permanent residence or commuter status. Other documentation of proof such as court ordered name change, marriage certificate, birth certificate or police report for a stolen or lost green card.

When e-filing your application, ensure that your application has been successfully submitted to USCIS. If you receive a receipt number on the web confirmation page and your application no longer appears in the list of saved application in the My Forms screen, it means your application has been filed successfully. If you receive Form I-797, Notice of Action, through the mail within 10 days of e-Filing your application, it means your application was filed successfully. Your confirmation receipt number will be in the Form I-797.

Do you want to participate in the green card free lottery program? Before that here are a few important points you need to know about the Diversity Visa (DV) lottery program. The Department of State conducts this program every year.

As the name implies, this green card free lottery program is indeed free. No submission fee is involved. This program provides 50,000 green cards every year to eligible immigrants. Eligible immigrants? Yes. As an applicant, you need to meet simple, but strict eligibility requirements. Not all countries are eligible. So the first and primary eligibility criteria is that you should be from a qualifying country. The eligible country would normally be the same as your country of birth and is not related to where you live. Secondly, you should have at least a high school education or its equivalent.

So, your next question will be, how do I know if my country is eligible? Countries from which large number of immigrants move to the US are not eligible.

If more than 50,000 persons under the family and employment based visa categories from your country immigrated to the US during the last five years, you will not qualify for the current year’s DV lottery. Within each region, no single country will receive more than seven percent of the available visas in this program in any one year. If you are not from a qualifying country, you can apply if your spouse if from an eligible country.

Completing the green card lottery application :

You have to list your spouse and all your unmarried children below 21 years of age including all natural children as well as legally-adopted children and stepchildren, even if your child no longer resides with you or even if you do not plan to take this child to the US under the DV program, However, you need not list your child/children who is/are already a U.S.

citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident (LPR).

Signatures are not needed while filing. But you have to submit all required photographs. You should electronically submit your recent photograph along with the one of your spouse and each unmarried child under 21 years of age. If you submit more than one entry, you will be disqualified regardless of who submitted the entry. You can submit your own entry, or have someone else submit the entry for you. But a husband and wife can each submit one entry if each meet the eligibility requirements for the green card lottery program. You can either be in the U.S. or in another country, and the application can be submitted from the United States or from abroad.

You have to electronically submit your application at www.dvlottery.state.gov . Paper entries will not be accepted. Once you have submitted your application for the green card free lottery program successfully, you will get a confirmation for the same. It is very important that you print or write down the confirmation number as this confirmation will be given only once and at the time of your filing. You can check the status of your application with this confirmation number. However, if you still lose this confirmation, you will still receive a letter from the Kentucky Consular Center by mail informing you of your selection, if you are successful. You will not receive any additional notification if your entry is unsuccessful.Green Card Lottery is the best way to get green card to USA.

The EB5 Investor Visa has been responsible for the creation of thousands of jobs for American citizens since it was introduced as part of the Immigration Act of 1990. It has also brought in over a billion dollars for the United States economy. It is not difficult to see why the program has received such favorable reactions from both the government and the general public.

Regional Centers actually offer a very valuable service for those interested in the Immigrant Investor Program. The chance of success is greatly improved for investors who choose to make use of these Regional Centers as part of their Eb-5 Investor Visa application. The conditions and guidelines set out by the Immigrant Investor Program are fairly complex and can be confusing. Regional Centers can offer expert advice in satisfying these guidelines. The United States government describes these Regional Centers as “any economic unit, either public or private, which is involved with the promotion of economic growth, improved regional productivity, job creation and increased domestic capital investment.” In order to become a certified Regional Center a number of criteria must be satisfied.

One of the main conditions of the EB5 Investor Visa is direct or indirect job creation. To be more specific, any immigrant wishing to enter the United States on an EB5 Investor Visa must invest in either a new company or an existing business in order to benefit the United States economy and create at least ten full time jobs. Direct job creation occurs when the employment opportunities are created within the company being started or invested in by the investor. Indirect job creation occurs when the jobs are created with the company. Regional Centers can assist foreign investors in satisfying this job requirement in order to obtain the EB5 Green Card Visa. In addition, the Regional Centers can also provide thoroughly researched business plans which allow investors to make a much safer investment. While success rates are high for those investing through the immigrant investor program, like most financial investment opportunities, it does carry some financial risk. The success rate is significantly increased when investment is made through a government certified Regional Center.

The minimum investment required in order to apply for an EB5 investor Visa is approximately one million US dollars. Which can be invested anywhere in the United States as long is it also meets the job creation requirements of the immigrant investor program. However, this amount can be reduced to half a million US dollars if the investment is in an area with high unemployment or a rural area. This is best achieved by making the investment with the help of a Regional Center who will have a proven track record in helping foreign investors to make successful EB5 green card applications.

After writing 25 things about a guy who feels he is still new to Parkland, one question that most people asked or one thing that most people commented on was my migration to different places. The questions were simple: Why have I moved so much or What have I explored and learned? The answer is a little long but should not be bad. So here goes!

Note: It does take time to write this..lol! Please comment so that i know you read it!! Your comment will really help me!

India:
India is without any doubts, the most eclectic country in this world. With 1900 languages, 8 major religions and 1 billion people, India is a land of highly mixed cultures. I was given by God the gift of being born in the Western Part of India on 27th September, 1992. Right from the beginning I was forced to learn the basic languages which majority of the population of India speaks: English and Hindi. Hinduism is thought to be the religion of the majority of the population and no doubt it is! However, India is the only country where you will find a large number of Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs, Zoroastrians and Jews. My dad is a mechanical engineer by profession and has managed cement companies all his life. The company he worked in from 1984-2003 required him to transfer a lot. So I moved to Central India when I was 1, Mumbai when I was 2 and then moved to South India when I was 4. This is where my actual life started. Although being a Hindu, I was admitted into a Lutheran school right from the start. I didn’t know how important this was going to be since I would move to America in 10 years. Anyways, Christian teachings were instilled inside me from the beginning. I used to go to the chapel almost every day and participate in the Church at least once a week. Slowly, I was being made a Hindu with a lot of Christian influence on my life. I learned Tamil, a South Asian language, for 5 years but don’t remember a single alphabet. After studying for almost 8 years in a Christian School, we moved to northern India and lived there for four years. The Lutheran beginning slowly started getting far away. I was slowly losing my link with Christianity. North India was beautiful but backwards! I lived there for a few years. I learnt Sanskrit (An ancient language of the Aryans). At this point in my life (7th grade), although I was studying everything in English, I had taken 8 years of Hindi, 3 years of Sanskrit and 5 years of Tamil. The best part was that I had made good friends for the first time in life. As I had almost found the friends to be with for the rest of my life, I received the news one day, that hey! We are moving to Saudi Arabia!

My after thoughts of India- India will always be solid in my heart and mind even if I live in America for the rest of my life. India is a land that taught me how to learn, interact and study. India was a land that taught me that world is a mixture. In short, India showed me that “The goal is one but ways of achieving it are different!”

Saudi Arabia-
There is only one way to describe this country in the Dar-al-Islam- Eccentric. Almost completely bound by the holy teachings of Prophet Muhammad and tightly controlled by the doctrines of Quran (holy book of Islam), Saudi Arabia can be a weird country to live for any “Non-Muslim.” Sounds so stinking that people wonder how I survived. But to your astonishment, let me tell you I did way more than “survive.” Apart from the religious restrictions and the strict laws, the language and food of Arabia is the excellent. I ate a chicken broast every week in Saudi. Broasts are like KFC except for that they are way better. They are tenderly fried and roasted. Another food that I really liked was the khaboos. It’s the bread of Saudi Arabia. So at this point, I was learning my 6th language- Urdu which is the best of all the languages that I had taken so far. It is one of the most beautiful scripts to read. At this point, I had completely lost my connection with Christianity. Also, I was not allowed to publically follow my religion and pray only in private at home. They loved soccer in Saudi and Saudi people would start playing soccer at midnight behind my backyard. This is so because it is so hot in the afternoon. My time soon ended in Saudi. I had to return back to India to get better education but guess what! News soon hit my ear that my dad was looking for jobs in the United States and that the US embassy had called us for a green card interview!

My afterthoughts of Saudi: Saudi is definitely the most different place I have ever visited. Like I said, eccentric is the best way to describe it. Saudi helped me develop my life and taught me how life really is in the not so familiar part of the world. Saudi taught me that food is definitely one of the best parts in life!

The United States of America (Present Day)-
If India is eclectic, Saudi is eccentric then what is USA? I have no freaking idea! The United States of America is different from each and every country in the world. First you have to switch from km to miles, deg C to deg F and from kg to lbs. That is one of the most common examples of how different USA is. I also had to learn to pronounce the letter Z from Zed to Zey. However, there are billions more than just units of measurement. There is High School! The high school in US is the hardest place to compete in the world. I have already told you guyz all about my feelings about parkland in my 25 things. I will be honest that it was really hard for me at first. But people tell me that the worst thing is to compare oneself to others in Parkland. This is what I have learnt, that if you don’t compare yourself to others in Parkland, you will succeed. Let go of the past and you will be fine. Otherwise it burns inside you! Since this note is meant to be about me, I will tell you the truth. The one thing that I really wish for is that I had come to Parkland 2 or 3 years ago. I still don’t know a lot of stuff that prepares me for college. For ex: I came to know about Gov school only 3 months ago. So that is where I say it burns inside you! For me it is you know you can do it but you can’t because of the restrictions! Looking at the competition in Parkland, I was afraid at first. But now I think I am getting used to it. But the hardest thing of all in Parkland, is making friends and having a social circle. A year and a half into Parkland, I still feel I am just there. I am not there for something! It is understandable but not for Parkland. Obviously people have their well established social circles since elementary/middle schools. One thing that I really need to learn is how to fit myself into one of those. I know you all are thinking that I say hi and talk to you people as if I have always been in PHS but the truth is I really haven’t. I know it inside me. But now I am getting closer and closer to finding good friends. Hopefully I will find them before I graduate. Wish me luck! About the culture, United States is multi ethnic. So many languages, immigrants from almost every country, politics with heat, and different religions make US an indefinable country. One of the things that struck me in the last week or two is that I might have my lost connection to Lutheran Christianity back. Looking at Lutheran churches, I think of my first days at the Lutheran school in South India and how both are similar or different. It its very crazy if you think about it! But life is getting better and now I have decided that no matter what happens, I am not moving from Allentown!

Current thoughts about Unites States: USA has taught me what happens and what you should do when people from everywhere compete. USA has taught me that life is to enjoy, live it to the fullest! It has brought me closer to getting into my dream university- Yale! However, it is still very far away. It has made me come across one of the greatest people I have known, I believe you all!

Winning Visa lottery to come to America is a live changing experience for any immigrant but it can be a blessing or a humbling experience. Many immigrants ounce they arrive in US find out things are not as they had expected, leaving them shocked, surprised and confused instead of the excitement they felt when they were told they were free to come to the land of opportunity. These are some of the misconceptions immigrants carry with them coming to America.

1. Work

Myth – Since the immigrant had won the Visa lottery and had a green card, therefore being a legal alien, as opposed to being an illegal alien, government will find a job for them or will help them find one.

Truth – America is a capitalist country with its governing system based on competition. People in US looking for jobs compete against one other, with the most qualified and experience getting hired. Also most jobs are controlled by the private sector that has the absolute autonomy on who to hire in their companies.

2. Housing

Myth – The immigrant will be provided with housing ounce they arrive in US, especially those who come with their families and children. They have heard stories that having children in America provide you with special treatment.

Truth– The housing market is a business in US. Many of the apartments and houses for rent are owned by individual landlords, who own and operate their properties as businesses to make profit. Rent can be very expensive especially in the urban areas where immigrants usually live and there are strict housing codes for children.

3. School

Myth – The immigrant children will have free schooling, also they can send their spouses to trade schools, like nursing and computers for free.

Truth – Education is free in US up to high school. College and other trade schools are not free; they require school fees which can be very expensive.

4. Medical care

Myth– Some immigrants apply for lottery to come to US for the sole reason of wanting their children, spouse or themselves to get advance medical care that they could not get in their own countries. They have heard about free medical care and expect that their legal status will let them be treated for free.

Truth – Medical care in US is very expensive. Most immigrants usually come to the US with some kind of condition that needs specialized treatment which can amount to thousands of dollars as most hospitals that provide special treatments are profit making entities.

5. Culture

Myth– Americans are friendly and accommodating, especially if you came to the country legally not like illegal aliens who come to US to make trouble so they will welcome you with open arms, opening doors for you whenever you go.

Truth – America is a pure capitalist country and people in the US have the survival of the fittest mentality. People do not usually help others out of gratitude but on what they will gain from them.

Immigrants are often bombarded with a lot of information regarding their new country and the information they get on their arrival will make a huge difference or will go a long way to determine if they will assimilate quickly, become successful and be productive members of the society.
